SAFA TV Returns New and Improved for the New Season
The Scottish Amateur Football Association (SAFA) is delighted to announce that, following the success of its pilot programme during 2025/26, SAFA TV will become a permanent feature of the Scottish amateur football landscape from the 2026/27 season.
Building on the momentum of its inaugural season, SAFA TV will significantly expand its coverage, with plans to broadcast more than 50 live matches throughout the campaign. Coverage will include Scottish Amateur district fixtures, national competitions, representative matches, major cup finals and other key games, bringing the very best of grassroots football to supporters across Scotland and beyond.
Following valuable feedback from viewers, clubs and volunteers, several major enhancements have been introduced to improve both the viewing experience and the quality of broadcasts. These include investment in professional broadcast cameras, Starlink satellite connectivity for greater streaming reliability, multi-camera production to capture key moments from every angle, and the development of a dedicated volunteer production team committed to delivering high-quality live coverage.
SAFA TV Manager Gary Nimmo said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to make SAFA TV a permanent part of Scottish amateur football. The response during our trial season exceeded expectations, and we’re grateful for the fantastic feedback we received from clubs, supporters and viewers.
“When we started, we were simply streaming matches using a VEO camera to give people access to games they otherwise couldn’t watch. That was an important first step, but we’ve invested heavily to create a platform that better reflects how people want to watch football today. With professional broadcast cameras, Starlink connectivity, multi-camera production and a fantastic team of volunteers, we’re now able to deliver a much higher-quality viewing experience that truly showcases the game.”
A major new development for the 2026/27 season is the launch of a platform that enables amateur clubs from across Scotland to contribute their own match coverage directly to SAFA TV. This initiative not only increases the amount of football available to supporters but also provides clubs with an opportunity to generate revenue from streamed matches, allowing fans who are unable to attend in person to continue supporting their teams.
We have also revisited our platform for being able to view games, with a new monthly access and yearly access pass being launched in the coming weeks. This was in direct response to the feedback received.
This represents a significant milestone for Scottish amateur football and is the first initiative of its kind at this scale, demonstrating SAFA’s commitment to embracing digital innovation while increasing the visibility and sustainability of the grassroots game.
